Adult Re-entry

The Adult Re-Entry Student Services Program has been formed to make the transition into college life a little easier. We bring students together to help provide guidence and support in their academic experience.

Your education is an investment in yourself and you can take an enormous amount of pride in what you are about to accomplish. Your decision to seize the opportunity to gain knowledge displays motivation, and dedication. We are excited to provide the information, and deeply value your perspective to our academic community.

Recent statistics from the Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Education show that non-traditional students are the fastest growing educational demographic. Almost 40 percent are over 25 with an average age of 30.

"Nontraditional Student Recognition Week”

Download Nomination Form

"Nontraditional Student Recognition Week” is a national celebration held in the first week of November each year by ANTSHE, Association of Nontraditional Students in Higher Education. In celebration, our campus would like to recognize the support campus departments provide and to also celebrate nontraditional student success.

If your department would like to sponsor and facilitate a “nontraditional student” activity or event during the week of November 2-9, please contact our office to let us know so we can spotlight campus efforts at UND.

In addition, we are seeking nominations to recognize a non-traditional student on our campus and highlight his/her successful efforts in academic commitment, leadership, and personal challenges he/she has contributed on the way to reaching his/her academic goals. Please take the time to select a student in your department for this special recognition and submit your nomination for the 2008-09 recipient of the “Nontraditional Student Recognition” award by Friday, October 31, 2008. The award will be presented at a special ceremony for nontraditional students on Friday, November 7, 2008 in the Memorial Ballroom (further details to come). Send completed nomination forms to the Adult Re-Entry/Student Success Center at Stop 7143 or email to adultre.entry@und.edu

Candidates must be considered a non-traditional student, which primarily includes currently enrolled adult learners who may have one or more of the following characteristics:  25 years or older, returning/re-entry student, distance/commuter, student with work/family obligations, transfer, international, or military/veteran student.

Please submit your Nontraditional Student Recognition Award nomination based on the four questions below (nomination form PDF).

  1. What is unique about this nontraditional student?
  2. What is outstanding about this student’s performance?
  3. What challenges has this student successfully met as a “non-traditional” student while attending UND?
  4. Give examples of how this student serves as a role model for his/her classmates, instructors, coworkers, or family.

Our campus activities and recognition award will be submitted to the ANTSHE organization for a potential national award and recognition. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. Please share this information with your department to encourage participation and support.
